Wetlands emphasizes the primacy of soil as a foundational element from which life, time, and memory emerge. The series reflects on fertility, growth, and the persistence of what remains, evoking landscapes where earth becomes both medium and metaphor.
Through abstraction, Alfredo Moreira da Silva constructs dense pictorial fields that recall roots, humus, and sedimentation. Dark formations suggest compression and accumulation, while luminous passages of blue evoke submerged movement and the presence of water as an active force. Layered surfaces function like strata, registering cycles of deposition, erosion, and renewal.
The works invite viewers to experience painting not as representation, but as an extension of the natural environment itself. Here, germination and decay become visual language, articulating a continuous rhythm of life and remembrance.
