The Artist

Alfredo Moreira da Silva is a contemporary Portuguese artist from Porto who has lived and worked in Alentejo for more than three decades. The region’s landscape has deeply influenced his artistic practice, shaping a body of work that explores the emotional and symbolic qualities of place.

Working between abstraction and landscape, his paintings engage with the inner life of territory, using colour and gesture to evoke atmosphere and memory. Often linked to neo-expressionist painting, his work reflects an ongoing dialogue with landscape, architecture, and traces of human presence, with each canvas carrying the light, materiality, and spirit of the environment in which it was created.

Artist Residency

In addition to the work developed in his forest studio, Alfredo Moreira da Silva accepts a limited number of invitations each year to create paintings in locations around the world. Each commission takes the form of a residency of several weeks, during which the artist lives and works within the environment that inspires the painting, observing its light, landscape, architecture, materials, and human presence.

Through this close encounter with place, the work develops on site, shaped by the atmosphere and rhythms of its surroundings. At the end of the residency, the host acquires the completed painting as a commissioned work reflecting the identity of the location, forming a singular relationship between artist, place, and painting.

Places of Invitation

The Commissioned Residency Program is particularly suited to environments that carry a strong sense of place.

  • Boutique and country house hotels
  • Sustainable resorts and historic estates
  • Cultural institutions and architecturally significant spaces

These settings provide the depth of landscape, history, and atmosphere to which Alfredo Moreira da Silva's work responds.
